New House for an Old Property

Sudbury, Massachusetts

When Howe Development Corporation’s president, David Howe originally saw the circa 1947 five bedroom/two bathroom home, he immediately saw the potential and decided to take on the project. It had an attractive, level 1/2-acre lot which was surrounded by mature trees and located in a desirable area of Sudbury. However, the house itself was situated poorly on the lot, much too close to the road. The floor plan lacked versatility and could never be functional enough to suit the needs of today’s family. Although we prefer to restore older homes to their former glory, this time, David felt it was better to start fresh and build a home that not only had great functionality, but also exceptional versatility married with stunning architectural form.

David exercised his creativity and great love of architectural detail, making each room beautiful and unique. The end result was breathtaking. Transom windows, coffered ceilings, picture frame moldings, decorative columns and custom built-ins are just a few of the details that David used in the design which make this house so outstanding. The large farmhouse-inspired Kitchen boasts a spacious 10ft island and a built-in desk which would make a great family command center. There is plenty of room in the kitchen to have the kids do their homework while the parents make dinner. It’s a space made for a family to be together. A short walk thru the built-in Pantry leads you to a large Mudroom with custom built-ins, Storage Closet and ½ Bath.

One of the most versatile features of the first-floor plan is its Junior Suite. French doors topped with a transom window lead into the suite which features a walk-in closet and attached full bathroom. The suite has infinite potential as either a home office, au-pair suite, library, den, guest room or even as a first-floor master bedroom. Another excellent example of this new home’s versatility is the 24x14 Bonus Room located on the second floor. Since the home was sold even before it was finished, the new home owners were able to customize the Bonus Room to meet their families' needs.
